Untuk mengantisipasi hal itu, maka salah satu sistem yang efektif untuk dikembangkan adalah mengimplementasikan program pesantren. Berangkat dari hal tersebut, tujuan penelitian ini di antaranya adalah untuk mengetahui bagaimanakah implementasi program pesantren dalam membentuk karakter siswa, untuk mengetahui bagaimanakah karakter siswa pada implementasi program pesantren, dan untuk mengetahui apa saja faktor pendukung dan penghambat implementasi program pesantren dalam membentuk karakter siswa di Madrasah Aliyah (MA) Syaikh Zainuddin NW Anjani. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode deskriptif kualitatif.Teknik pengumpulan data menggunakan triangulasi, yaitu teknik pengumpulan data yang bersifat penggabungan dari berbagai teknik pengumpulan data dan sumber data yang telah ada. Teknik analisis data yang digunakan ialah analisis interaktif dengan tiga jalur, yaitu reduksi data, penyajian data, dan penarikan kesimpulan. Untuk validitas data, telah dilakukan melalui uji kredibiltas data dengan cara triangulasi sumber dan triangulasi teknik pengumpulan data. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa: Pertama: Implementasi program boarding schoolmengacu kepada sebuah program perencanaan boarding school, integrasi kurikulum madrasah dan program pesantren, serta langkah-langkah untuk melaksanakan kedua hal tersebut, dilakukan dengan menggunakan beberapa langkah, yaitu langkah persuasif, individual, dan kolektif. Kedua: Karkater yang dihasilkan dalam program pengimplementasian, pesantren yaitu pribadi yang beradab, beriman dan bertakwa, memiliki integritas tinggi, jujur, mandiri, patriotisme dan Nasionalisme, kedisiplinan dan tanggung jawab. Ketiga: Faktor pendukungnya adalah lingkungan religius, sarana dan prasarana yang memadai, dan pola interaksi super aktif yang dibangun antara guru dengan siswa, pengasuh dengan santari, siswa dengan siswa melalui program tiga bahasa yaitu bahasa Arab, Inggris dan Indonesia.
